With sales up 10% (+5.3% on a like-for-like basis) and 19 new outlets, the sporting goods cooperative claims to have gained 2 market share points in its 2015 financial year.

Sporting goods cooperative Intersport has announced sales growth of 10% in 2015, to €1.7 billion, compared with €1.6 billion in 2014. The brand boasts a record number of store openings last year, with 19 new lowland stores and 16 transfers/expansions, representing an additional sales area of 50,000 m².

Intersport now has 394 member outlets in lowlands and 220 in mountains (7 openings in 2015). To these can be added 18 stores under the urban fashion banner Blackstore4 of which opened last year.

Store traffic up 12% on 2015

But this expansion, which created 500 jobs in 2015, is not the only reason for the chain's momentum, as like-for-like sales growth remains at +5.3%. Thanks in particular to a 12% increase in the number of store visits.

This performance enabled Intersport to increase its market share by 2 points, to 18% in 2015 from 16% in 2014. And put it on track to achieve its 2020 target of 20% market share and €2 billion in sales.

Continued development on the agenda for 2016

In 2016, Intersport plans to open 18 new member stores, as well as 17 transfers/expansions. Plus 5 new concept stores Blackstore,in Brive-la-Gaillarde, Cholet, Montbrison, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Toulouse. And two more, expected this summer, with the footwear brand The Athlete's Foot, acquired in 2012.
