"Materials retailer BIGMAT has unveiled a new "sustainable, modular and connected" point-of-sale concept. It is due to take shape at the end of the first half of 2014.

A year ago, BigMat announced its intention to "double its installed base by 2017". An ambitious goal... perhaps too ambitious. As its Chairman Joël Armary now explains, the company has hardly opened any new outlets in the last 12 months. Nor is it planning to open any new outlets in 2014, with the exception of a few tie-ups with existing stores. In a materials trading market that's "doing badly", its network therefore remains stagnant for the time being, at 336 stores in France, run by 109 members.

Even so, the chain has not given up its determination toclose the gap on the sector's number 1, the Point P chain (800 stores in France). " Behind it, there is currently no number 2: our aim is to take that place", Joël Armary reaffirmed at the Batimat trade show. And, as he points out, "the point of sale is the most important tool in the trade", that's where his company has decided to take action.

On November 8, BigMat unveiled a new "sustainable, modular and connected" store concept to its customers, partners and members . " We're selling more and more solutions for improving the energy efficiency of homes, so it's only logical that our sales outlets should become exemplary in this field", explains Joël Armary. First and foremost, building facades are set to evolve. " We're proposing a DNA that can be adapted to suit each outlet," he stresses. Hence the customizable system, based on wood-frame architecture, which members can personalize with the materials (wood, glass, metal, etc.) of their choice, depending on their region in particular.
