On Thursday December 17, e-tailer Cdiscount announced the launch in France of an online food distribution service based on the Franprix network of physical stores.

Image2Both brands belong to the Casino Group. The special feature of this service is that the order online can be delivered in an hour and a half.
It will be available at Paris and in two Hauts-de-Seine municipalities (Neuilly-sur-Seine and Levallois-Perret), with 4,500 items of dry and fresh produce (fruit, vegetables and meat), slightly less than a Franprix store (around 6,000 items) or an online shopping site (around 8,000 items).

Cdiscount's ambition is to extend this service to the whole of France, using all Groupe Casino's 7,600 physical, urban stores. Cdiscount will draw on each store's inventory as if it were a warehouse. " We can envisage the service eventually being operated by a Monoprix for orders placed in the city of Saint-Etienne, by a Casino supermarket for those in Toulouse, or by a SPAR in south-west France," says Jean-Paul Mochet, Managing Director of Franprix. His brand was selected for this service because all Parisians have a Franprix within 3 km of their home - there are 300 in the capital. Delivery, carried out by a service provider, will be by bicycle or on foot in 70% of cases.

For the past ten days, Cdiscount has been discreetly testing this service...
